"We have seen Japanese companies' return on equity (ROE) rise from less than 8% in 2012 to over 12% now, comparable to U.S. companies. Moreover, Japanese stock valuations remain reasonable, with a P/E ratio of about 15 times, lower than the U.S. at 20 times."
In addition, geopolitical risks have also driven capital from other Asian markets to Japan. Uncertainties such as escalating US-China trade frictions and supply chain restructuring in Southeast Asia have made Japan an attractive stable and mature economy. The yen exchange rate has remained in the range of 105-110 yen per U.S. dollar in 2026, relatively stable, further boosting investor confidence.
Real Estate Market Welcomes International Buyers

Risks and Challenges Coexist
However, all investments come with risks. The Japanese market is not without concerns. First, Japan's aging population and labor shortage may suppress economic growth in the long term. Second, if the Bank of Japan further tightens monetary policy in the future, bond yields could rise, putting pressure on stock and real estate valuations. Additionally, the volatility of the yen exchange rate may affect foreign investors' actual returns.
Analysis by Maju Investment points out that liquidity of Japanese assets is relatively low, especially in real estate markets, where buying and selling take longer.
